Gina Rinehart reveals US$1.4 billion investment in SpaceX
Australian mining magnate Gina Rinehart has significantly increased her US stock portfolio, which rose from US$3.3 billion in March to approximately US$5.7 billion by the end of June. This growth was largely driven by a substantial investment in Elon Musk’s SpaceX through her company, Hancock Prospecting.
Filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission reveal that Rinehart holds 8 million SpaceX shares, valued at approximately US$1.4 billion. This represents her largest US stockholding outside of iron ore. The investment follows an initial US$1 billion participation in the company’s Nasdaq IPO in June. While the SpaceX share price experienced volatility—peaking at US$201.80 before dropping to US$108—it recently recovered to trade around US$140.
Rinehart’s broader US portfolio also includes stakes in Tesla, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, L3Harris Technology, and Trump Media & Technology. She also holds minor new positions in oil and gas explorers Infinity Natural Resources and Gulfport Energy.
