Ginostra reopens school after 20 years for single student

A school is reopening in Ginostra, a small hamlet on the slopes of the Stromboli volcano in Italy, after being closed for twenty years. The facility, which is only accessible by boat, will host a single student: six-year-old Aysha.

The reopening was made possible through an agreement between the municipal administration of Lipari and the Archdiocese of Messina, which provided space within the recently renovated San Vincenzo Ferreri parish. This decision prevents the student's family from having to relocate or commute long distances to Lipari or Milazzo to ensure her education.

The local mayor emphasized that the decision sends a vital message to the isolated community, asserting that education is a fundamental right regardless of how remote a location may be.
