Gioia dei Marsi expands rural museum and celebrates sustainability recognition
The town of Gioia dei Marsi is expanding its open-air museum of peasant civilization with a new mural dedicated to the harvest. Created by artist Graziella Gagliardi, the work depicts one of the most significant historical agricultural traditions of the Marsica region.
Mayor Gianluca Alfonsi highlighted the symbolic importance of the piece, noting that it serves to preserve the collective memory of rural life. The mural is part of a larger, free-access walking tour of artworks located throughout the historic center.
Additionally, the municipality has been recognized as a model for rural development and sustainability. Having earned the ‘Spiga Verde d’Italia’ distinction from the Foundation for Environmental Education, the town recently presented its experience as a virtuous example of rural growth at an event in Tortoreto.
