Gioia Tauro beach establishment seized over illegal land occupation
The Carabinieri of Gioia Tauro have seized a beach establishment and its adjacent areas located on the city's seafront. The facility, which houses a well-known pizzeria-trattoria, was targeted following an inspection that revealed multiple irregularities regarding the occupation and management of maritime state land.
Authorities identified approximately 230 square meters of illegally occupied maritime territory. Investigations revealed that a portion of the area was used without any concession or authorization. In another instance, a manager reportedly claimed to be the heir of a deceased concessionaire to secure ownership rights.
Additionally, the investigation found that the material management of the pizzeria-trattoria had been delegated to a third party without the mandatory prior authorization required by Article 45-bis of the Navigation Code. Two managers have been reported to the judicial authorities on charges including illegal occupation of maritime state space, aggravated invasion of state lands, and making false statements to a public official.
