Gioiosa Ionica family killed in fatal highway collision

A fatal head-on collision between a car and a heavy vehicle on the Jonio-Tirreno state road near Rosarno has resulted in the deaths of three members of the Loccisano family. The victims, residents of the Prisdarello district in Gioiosa Ionica, include 53-year-old Vincenzo Loccisano and his two daughters, aged 13 and 8.

The mother, Morena Femia, was rescued from the wreckage and is currently in critical condition at the hospital in Polistena. Local officials and the community have expressed profound shock and grief over the incident. Mayor Luca Ritorto described the event as an “unbearable” tragedy, noting the community's heartbreak over the loss of two young girls who were due to begin the new school year shortly.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the impact. The stretch of road where the accident occurred has been noted for its dangerous conditions and history of fatal incidents.
