Carabinieri seize over 2,300 hemp plants in Calabria

Carabinieri forces have conducted extensive operations in the Locride region of Calabria, resulting in the seizure and destruction of over 2,300 Indian hemp plants. The crackdown targeted plantations hidden within the dense and difficult-to-access vegetation of the Preserre Calabresi.

A significant portion of this operation took place in Gioiosa Ionica, where authorities discovered a highly organized plantation consisting of approximately 300 plants. These plants, ranging from 2 to 4 meters in height, were located in two distinct plots and featured sophisticated automated irrigation systems.

Investigators estimate that the seized crops could have produced more than 200,000 doses of marijuana, with a potential illicit market value exceeding 2 million euros. The operation involved specialized units, including the Cacciatori Calabria helicopter squadron and the 8th Helicopter Nucleus, to navigate the steep and rugged terrain.
