Giorgia Meloni reacts to AfD electoral success in Germany

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has commented on the electoral success of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, where the party secured 44 percent of the vote.

Meloni stated that democracy must be respected and suggested that the AfD's growth is a reaction to the German 'Grand Coalition' failing to provide clear answers on critical issues such as immigration. She emphasized that the political situation in Germany should not be compared to Italy, noting that Italy's center-right government provides different responses to voter concerns.

Italian political reactions to the German results have been divided. While Matteo Salvini of the Lega party welcomed the AfD's victory, Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani of Forza Italia described the outcome as ‘terrible news’.
