Giorgia Meloni disputes political claims over car taxes and TFR protections

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has engaged in public disputes on social media with political opponents regarding recent government measures.

In one exchange, Meloni and Italia Viva leader Matteo Renzi clashed over a government decision to provide car tax exemptions for vehicles up to 80 kW and certain motorcycles starting in 2027. Renzi used the occasion to revive a 2016 debate, accusing Meloni of political distraction, while Meloni defended the measure as a structural intervention.

Additionally, Meloni addressed allegations from the Democratic Party (PD) concerning the severance pay (TFR) safeguard clause. She refuted claims that the government intended to eliminate protections for workers, explaining that while an old regulation is being repealed, the safeguard clause is explicitly preserved and reorganized within the new unified text of the decree.
