Giorgia Meloni faces opposition calls for industrial revamp and sweeping political reform

Elly Schlein, the secretary of Italy’s Democratic Party, called on Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to join a "battle" for reviving Italian manufacturing. Schlein urged a bold European industrial plan, noting the crisis in both Italy and the wider EU, and advocated deeper integration and treaty changes to support the sector.

Former Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno, speaking shortly after his release from prison, also addressed Meloni, urging her to contact Vannacci and stressing that “everything in Italy must change.” He criticised current immigration policies, promoted a concept of “remigration,” and framed his calls as a broader challenge to the country’s political direction.

Both statements reflect mounting pressure from opposition figures for Meloni to adopt more aggressive industrial and political reforms in Italy.
