Giorgia Meloni honors legacy of Christian Democracy party

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni paid tribute to the Christian Democracy (DC) party in a video message sent to the conference ‘The Italian Party, from DC to Berlusconi and Meloni’ in Saint Vincent. Meloni described the DC as the preeminent governing party for decades and the most enduring in the history of the Italian Republic.

She noted that the party's strength lay in its ability to represent a large popular bloc that favored Western values, democracy, and freedom. Meloni suggested that the political culture established by the DC continues to characterize the actions of her current government.

Meloni also referenced the book by Gianfranco Rotondi, which explores the evolution of the Italian political landscape from the DC to the current center-right coalition, which she noted is the longest-lasting government in the history of the Republic.
