Meloni unveils Falcone’s Fiat Croma in Palermo, pledges extra anti‑mafia security
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, regional President Renato Schifani, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio and Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi attended a ceremony in Palermo’s Museum of the Present to unveil the white Fiat Croma that Giovanni Falcone, his wife Francesca Morvillo and their police escort rode on 23 May 1992 when the Capaci bombing killed them. The car, long stored at a police training school, was loaned to the Falcone Foundation and placed on display as a “living testimony” of the anti‑mafia struggle.
During the event Meloni stressed that the State will not retreat before organized crime, announcing additional resources for Palermo: €6 million more funding, 90 extra police officers (raising the total to 940), and the possibility of deploying army units for permanent territorial patrols, especially in high‑risk districts such as the Zen. She also highlighted the return of assets seized from the Mafia to the community and called on all institutions to keep the memory of Falcone and Borsellino alive through concrete action.
Schifani echoed the message, describing the museum as a space where remembrance becomes concrete commitment, and urged the continued collaboration of national and regional bodies in the fight against the Mafia.
