Italy budget plan moves to Council of Ministers

The Italian government is presenting its 2027 budget law to the Council of Ministers, focusing on fiscal stability, support for the middle class, and incentives for younger generations. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized the goal of meeting previous commitments while managing limited resources.

Key proposed measures include tax relief for young people, such as an expanded no-tax area for those under 25 and a potential 5% flat tax for new hires under 35. The budget also considers a dedicated card for the elderly to reimburse medical expenses not covered by the national health service, and a fund of nearly one billion euros to facilitate pension flexibility.

To fund these initiatives, the government is discussing using contributions from the banking and insurance sectors. Additionally, the plan aims to increase investments in Special Economic Zones (ZES) in Southern Italy. While some tax cuts for middle-income earners above 50,000 euros have been sidelined, the government continues to debate an Irpef threshold increase up to 55,000 euros.
