Giorgia Meloni retains personal popularity as her government slips in Italian poll

Two recent Italian polls highlight a split between support for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and disapproval of her government. A BiDiMedia survey commissioned by First srl (June 22, 2026) found that 54.3% of respondents approve of Meloni personally, while 55.8% disapprove of the government she leads. The same poll showed the opposition “campo largo” at 43.8% of voting intention, marginally ahead of the centre‑right coalition at 43.1%.

The survey also detailed party‑level standings: Brothers of Italy at 30.0%, Forza Italia 6.7%, Lega 5.5%, and the five‑star movement rising to 13.7%. A separate BiDiMedia poll examined voters of the Movimento 5 Stelle, revealing strong resistance to a potential alliance with Matteo Renzi’s Italia Viva and indicating a possible dip for the movement below the 10% threshold.

Overall, the data suggest Meloni’s personal brand remains robust, but her cabinet’s performance is viewed less favourably, and the broader opposition bloc is gaining a slight edge over the governing coalition ahead of upcoming elections.
