Giorgia Salvioni's Awake Brain Tumor Surgery Inspires New Book

Giorgia Salvioni, a 34‑year‑old from Apiro, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in late 2021. She underwent an awake neurosurgical procedure in September 2022 at the Torrette division of the Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria delle Marche, led by Dr. Roberto Trignani and supported by neuro‑anesthetist Edoardo Barboni and neuropsychologist Silvia Bonifazi. The operation, performed while she remained conscious, allowed her to interact with the surgical team and contributed to a swift recovery.

After regaining health, Salvioni authored the memoir "Cronache dal lobo sinistro – e dai suoi animoli" (Ventura Edizioni), presented at the Turin Book Fair. The book recounts her clinical journey, the empathetic care she received, and the personal transformation that followed. She describes the staff as "more heroes in the ward than on the big screen" and now works as head of production in a local company, regularly visiting the medical team that saved her life. She lives in Cupramontana with her Alaskan Malamute, Juneau.
