Giorgio Bracardi, iconic Italian comedian and musician, dies at 93
Giorgio Bracardi, a prominent Italian musician, singer, and comedian, has died at the age of 93. He passed away in a care facility in Fiano Romano following complications from a femoral fracture sustained last spring.
Bracardi was a central figure in the golden age of Italian radio and television. He gained widespread fame through the surreal and anarchic radio program ‘Alto Gradimento’ (1970–1976), which he co-created with Renzo Arbore, Gianni Boncompagni, and Mario Marenco. He was celebrated for his ability to create unforgettable, grotesque characters through distinctive vocal performances, including Scarpantibus (the ‘bird of Nicaragua’), the petulant journalist Max Vinella, and the fascist hierarch Ermanno Catenacci.
His career spanned multiple disciplines. He began as a pianist and composer, working for RCA and contributing to the Sanremo Music Festival. In television, he collaborated on cult programs such as ‘Quelli della notte’ and appeared in various variety shows. His film credits include roles in comedies like ‘Banana Joe’ alongside Bud Spencer. Additionally, he was the voice actor for the character Cattivik in the 2008 animated series.
