Giorgos Avtias calls for doubling of EU housing funds

Giorgos Avtias, a Member of the European Parliament for New Democracy, has called for a doubling of EU housing funds to address the interconnected housing and demographic crises. Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Avtias addressed EU Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, stating that ‘empty words do not solve the problem’ and emphasizing that Europe requires significant financial resources to tackle these issues.

Avtias proposed several specific measures, including direct funding for young couples, tax incentives for families, and financial support for home renovations in municipalities and regions. He also advocated for relocation incentives and the simplification of building permit processes, criticizing the current level of bureaucracy by noting that obtaining a permit currently feels like needing ‘100 prayers.’
