Giorgos Avtias calls for permanent EU funding fund
European Parliament member Giorgos Avtias has submitted a formal inquiry to the European Commission regarding the financial gap created by the expiration of the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Avtias, representing the New Democracy party and the European People's Party, is advocating for the establishment of a permanent European funding fund.
He proposes that this permanent fund be integrated into the upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework for the 2028-2034 period. The goal is to ensure stable resources for member states to address ongoing challenges without placing an undue burden on national budgets.
Specifically, Avtias is seeking clarification on how the Commission intends to continue funding large-scale European projects in critical sectors, including competitiveness, energy, housing, infrastructure, defense, security, regional development, and demographic issues.
