Giorgos Avtias opposes €400 billion EU budget cuts
Giorgos Avtias, a Member of the European Parliament representing New Democracy, has voiced strong opposition to a proposal by six northern countries to cut €400 billion from the upcoming European Union multiannual budget for the 2028-2034 period.
Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Avtias warned that such cuts would be a “tragic event for the European economy” and could lead to “economic fragmentation” within the EU. He emphasized that the budget should serve as a tool for development and cohesion, providing essential support to households and businesses facing housing and energy crises, as well as funding for agriculture and regional needs.
