Greek Parliament erupts over Constitutional Revision debates

Heated confrontations erupted in the Hellenic Parliament during discussions regarding Constitutional Revision. A major flashpoint occurred when PASOK rapporteur Panagiotis Doudonis challenged the presence of Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis, arguing that as an unelected official, his participation in a parliamentary process was unconstitutional. The exchange included sharp personal insults, with Zoi Konstantopoulou also calling for the Minister's departure.

The tension escalated into a broader political clash between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and PASOK leader Nikos Androulakis. Mitsotakis accused the opposition of an ‘all-or-nothing’ approach that undermines the spirit of the Constitution, while Androulakis claimed the government seeks to intimidate society. The debate also touched upon foreign policy, with Mitsotakis rejecting claims that the government uses Greco-Turkish tensions for partisan advantage.

In a separate announcement, New Democracy confirmed that Prime Minister Mitsotakis has decided that Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis will run as a candidate for the A' Thessaloniki constituency in the 2027 general elections.
