George Gerapetritis attends 81st UN General Assembly in New York

Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis is in New York to participate in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. His agenda includes high-level meetings with foreign ministers from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

Key priorities for the Minister include the crisis in the Middle East, the war in Ukraine, developments in Sub-Saharan Africa, and UN reform. He participated in a Ministerial Working Dinner for the Middle East co-hosted by the International Peace Institute, the EU, and Qatar. Additionally, Gerapetritis held a bilateral meeting with Khalilur Rahman, the President of the 81st General Assembly.

A central focus of the visit is Greece’s upcoming presidency of the UN Security Council, which begins on October 1. This marks Greece’s second presidency during its current term as a non-permanent member. The Minister emphasized Athens’ commitment to international law, the UN Charter, and a rules-based international order during a period of significant global instability.
