Giorgos Karamanis discusses Pella's judicial status
Former Minister Giorgos Karamanis attended the traditional ceremony marking the start of the new judicial year. During the event, discussions focused on the preservation of the Courts of First Instance in Edessa and Yiannitsa.
Karamanis noted that the decision to maintain these two courts as central entities, despite mergers occurring elsewhere in the country, stems from the 2007 designation of Pella as a border region. This designation, achieved during his tenure as Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Regions, provides institutional protection and benefits, such as border area allowances. This status served as the basis for including ‘special care for Pella, Evros, and the Dodecanese’ in the explanatory memorandum of the new Judicial Map, which is now state law.
