Giorgos Liagas faces budget‑cut demands in contract talks with Greek channel ANT1

Greek television presenter Giorgos Liagas is negotiating a new contract with the private broadcaster ANT1. The network has offered to keep Liagas on its morning programme but is demanding a substantial budget reduction, a cut of up to 40 % of the production panel and a 50 % reduction in on‑screen staff. Liagas has insisted that his team remain intact and that his show retain the 10:00 – 13:00 slot.

The presenter has also been approached by the rival network Open, which proposes a daily live infotainment programme combining lifestyle, politics and social topics. Liagas is weighing the ANT1 offer against the Open proposal and has indicated that a failure to reach a satisfactory agreement could lead him to leave ANT1, potentially ending his tenure at the channel after this season.
