Giorgos Liagas signs new ANT1 contract amid TV budget cuts and on‑air controversy

Veteran Greek television presenter Giorgos Liagas used his ANT1 morning show to respond to YouTuber Fipster, who called him unethical. Liagas said he is not opposed to YouTube, podcasts or influencers, but fights the “prechtiness” (φτήνια) in any medium. He noted that television is shrinking as programmes are cancelled and advertising costs rise, stating, “Never said I'm against YouTube… I fight the prechtiness… TV is decreasing.”

At the same time, Liagas secured a new contract with ANT1 that keeps his salary at previous levels. The network is preparing a major cost‑reduction programme, with up to a 40 % cut to the budget of the “Morning” show, possible staff departures, the appointment of Haris Aristeidis as entertainment director and the exit of Giota Spanou from her post.
