Giorgos Mazonakis death investigation: Doctors detained
Investigations continue into the death of Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis, who died following a colonoscopy at a clinic in Kolonaki. Two doctors, a 58-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife, have been detained at Koridallos Prison and face charges of intentional manslaughter.
Evidence from EKAB rescuers suggests significant medical irregularities. Rescuers reported that the doctors at the scene refused to provide patient information and allegedly did not perform effective CPR, leaving the singer in a semi-seated position when they arrived. The doctors also reportedly failed to accompany the patient in the ambulance to Elpis Hospital.
Authorities are also examining a suspected three-phase detoxification plan that included hydrotherapy and the colonoscopy. Furthermore, investigators are looking into potential money laundering involving the detained doctors. From prison, the detained physician has denied involvement, claiming he never had the singer as a patient and stating that the death was inevitable.
