Giorgos Raftopoulos, former GSEE President, dies at 86

Giorgos Raftopoulos, a prominent figure in the Greek trade union movement, has passed away at the age of 86. His funeral is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, September 9, at 11:00 AM at the Holy Church of Agios Spyridon in Missolonghi.

Raftopoulos held significant leadership roles within the Greek General Confederation of Labour (GSEE), serving as General Secretary from January 1982 to December 1983 and as President from 1983 until early 1989. The GSEE expressed its condolences, noting his service during a critical period for labor rights and social advocacy.

Beyond his domestic influence, Raftopoulos was active on the international stage. He served as a Member of the European Parliament and held positions within the European Trade Union Confederation and the International Trade Union Confederation. He also served as the General Secretary of the Ionian Islands Region.
