Giostra della Quintana celebrates 80th anniversary in Foligno

The Giostra della Quintana in Foligno is entering the final phase of its 80th-anniversary celebrations with the ‘Rivincita 2026’ event. The program, which was presented at Palazzo Donini, is scheduled to run from August 27 to September 13 at the Campo de li Giochi. The September edition will feature a Palio designed by artist Mimmo Paladino.

A significant development accompanying this milestone is the inclusion of the Quintana in the new regional law regarding culture and creative enterprises. This designation recognizes the event as a constitutive asset of the intangible cultural heritage of the Umbria region.

Umbria Regional President Stefania Proietti described the event as a ‘common heritage of Umbria,’ noting that the recognition resulted from a participatory process involving over 350 cultural entities. Officials also highlighted the event's social value in building community and noted improvements in animal welfare, specifically the decision to no longer permit the use of whips in the Campo de li Giochi.
