Giotto Polyptych arrives in Iași for historic exhibition

As part of the Italian-Romanian Cultural Year 2026, the Giotto Polyptych is being exhibited at the Palace of Culture in Iași, Romania. This marks the first time this 14th-century Italian masterpiece has been displayed outside of Italy.

The exhibition, titled ‘Sacred Connections: Giotto in Iași. Between Byzantine Tradition and Western Innovation’, is a collaborative effort involving the Pinacoteca Nazionale di Bologna, the National Museum Complex Moldova Iași, the SACRUM Foundation, and Civita Mostre e Musei. The event is supported by the Embassy of Italy in Bucharest, the Italian Cultural Institute in Bucharest, and the Romanian Embassy in Rome.

Created around 1330 for a papal legate, the work represents a pinnacle of Giotto’s artistic maturity and his revolution in figurative art. The exhibition is also part of the SACRUM Iași Art Festival, focusing on the intersection of art, heritage, and Christian spirituality.
