Giovanna Gregori Pinto explores digital work data governance
In her new book, “O Trabalho Visível,” People Intelligence expert Giovanna Gregori Pinto examines the tension between two extremes in corporate digital monitoring: indiscriminate adoption for efficiency and the total rejection of professional routine data.
Pinto argues that the core issue is not the technology itself, but rather a lack of governance, defined purpose, and clear communication with teams. She notes that many organizational decisions regarding performance, promotions, and terminations are still based on subjective impressions and perceived presence rather than objective data.
The work contextualizes modern resistance to monitoring by referencing the historical legacy of Frederick Winslow Taylor, whose 1882 productivity measurements at the Midvale Steel Company linked labor observation to control and loss of dignity. Pinto suggests that current skepticism is a legitimate response to this historical memory rather than irrational resistance to technology.
