Pope Leo XIV has appointed Giovanni Crippa as the new bishop of the Diocese of Palmeira dos Índios in Alagoas, Brazil. Crippa is being transferred from his previous position as the bishop of Ilhéus in Bahia.

Crippa, who was born in Milan, Italy, previously served on the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB) Episcopal Commission for Missionary Action and Interchurch Cooperation during the 2015–2019 and 2019–2021 terms. The CNBB issued a formal greeting welcoming his appointment and acknowledging his missionary dedication.
