Giovanni Malagò and Giancarlo Abete vie for FIGC presidency

Giovanni Malagò and Giancarlo Abete have formally submitted their candidacies for the president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Their nominations were endorsed by the Lega Serie A (Malagò) and the Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (Abete) and will be decided at the electoral assembly scheduled for 22 June at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Malagò’s program stresses the need to stabilise and make the Lega Pro financially sustainable, promote youth by linking incentives to qualified minutes, integrate second‑team projects with Serie A, and preserve the identity of historic local clubs. He also calls for stronger support for the national teams, growth of Serie A through better audiovisual rights, international distribution, improved stadium experience, and investment in infrastructure, fiscal policy, security, technology and content protection.

Abete’s platform critiques the current second‑team system, argues for a clearer, multi‑year programme for Serie B, C and D, and emphasizes that reforms must deliver strategic benefits to the whole Italian football pyramid rather than isolated gains.
