Giovanni Malagò elected president of Italian football federation

Giovanni Malagò, a 67‑year‑old sports executive, was elected president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in Rome with 68.56% of the vote, succeeding Gabriele Gravina after Italy's recent failure to qualify for the World Cup. In his victory speech Malagò said, “Ich bin ein Sohn der FIGC. Mein Ziel war es immer, Italien groß zu machen.”

He faces the immediate task of appointing a new national team coach, a vacancy left by Gennaro Gattuso. While no decision has been made, former coaches Roberto Mancini and Antonio Conte have been mentioned, and the possibility of hiring a foreign manager – a first in the Azzurri’s history – has not been ruled out. Malagò also highlighted preparations for Euro 2032, which Italy will co‑host with Turkey, as a priority for his mandate.
