Giovanni Malagò elected president of Italy's football federation

Giovanni Malagò was elected president of the Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio (FIGC) with 68.58% of the votes, defeating former candidate Giancarlo Abete. The election took place at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria Hotel and was decided by secret electronic ballot with 266 of 273 delegates present.

Malagò will serve a two‑year term, succeeding Gabriele Gravina who stepped down after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup. He pledged to "make Italy great" in football, focusing on youth development, a new national team coach, reforms of sports justice and the preparation of five stadiums required for Euro 2032, which Italy will co‑host with Turkey. UEFA officials, including Michel Uva, are tasked with identifying the venues by the October deadline.
