Giovanni Malagò faces potential removal from FIGC presidency

The presidency of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) is facing potential invalidation following findings that Giovanni Malagò was not a registered member of the federation at the time of his election. Federal prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè has confirmed in a report that Malagò lacked the mandatory membership requirement stipulated in Article 29 of the FIGC statutes.

While Chinè has proposed archiving the case by citing past practices where candidates' memberships were not strictly verified, the legal implications remain significant. If the election is deemed invalid, it could potentially nullify all documents and contracts signed during his tenure, including high-profile agreements such as Roberto Mancini’s appointment to the national team.

The issue was brought to light following an appeal by former footballer and lawyer Renato Mele. The final decision regarding Malagò’s eligibility and the potential termination of his presidency now rests with the CONI board.
