FIGC Presidency: Malagò and Galliani face off in election battle

The race for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has intensified as current extraordinary commissioner Giovanni Malagò faces a potential challenge from Adriano Galliani. While Malagò seeks reelection for the December 14 vote, a faction of Serie A clubs, reportedly led by executives Giuseppe Marotta and Luca Percassi, is shifting support toward Galliani.

Malagò has expressed surprise and disappointment regarding the changing alliances within Serie A, noting that while thirteen clubs had previously indicated support, the landscape is shifting. He has advocated for a single, unified candidacy to avoid reopening historical fractures within the league.

The competition is currently divided among the top-tier clubs. Reports suggest Galliani has secured backing from clubs including Inter, Atalanta, Milan, Como, and Genoa. Meanwhile, Malagò maintains support from Monza, Napoli, Roma, Lecce, and Bologna, with Torino also leaning toward the incumbent. The deadline for submitting candidacies is November 4.

In addition to the leadership race, Malagò addressed other federation matters, including the development of women's football, infrastructure preparations for Euro 2032, and the recent performance of the Italian national team.
