Giovanni Placci wins silver in Lead climbing at European Championships

Giovanni Placci secured a silver medal in the Lead discipline at the World Climbing Europe Championship held in Laval, France. The 25-year-old reached hold 36, finishing behind Spanish climber and Tokyo Olympic champion Alberto Ginés López, who reached hold 40+.

Placci’s performance follows a strong showing in the semifinals, where he advanced to the final in eighth place. His silver medal adds to Italy’s successful campaign at the continental championships, which also included a gold medal in Speed climbing won by Beatrice Colli and a bronze in Boulder previously won by Camilla Moroni in Barcelona.

This achievement marks a significant milestone in Placci’s career and reinforces Italy’s competitive standing in the three climbing disciplines scheduled for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
