Giovanni Toti eliminated in round of 16 at Badminton World Championships

Italian badminton player Giovanni Toti has been eliminated from the 2026 Badminton World Championships in New Delhi. Toti, the last remaining Italian competitor in the tournament, reached the round of 32 after a comeback victory against Brazil's Jonathan Matias Oliveira, but fell in the round of 16 to Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen.

Chou, ranked sixth in the world qualification standings, won the match in straight sets with a score of 21-12, 21-11. Toti's exit concludes the Italian campaign at the championships, which had previously seen the elimination of Fabio Caponio, Yasmine Hamzan, and the doubles pair Martina Corsini and Emma Piccinin.

Toti will next compete in the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, scheduled from August 21 to September 3.
