Venice Film Festival concludes with awards and ‘Dio ride’
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is concluding with its final awards ceremony. The international jury, led by Maggie Gyllenhaal, is responsible for awarding the Golden Lion, Silver Lions for Best Director and Grand Jury Prize, and various awards for screenplay and acting.
Among the notable contenders for the Golden Lion are Martin McDonagh’s ‘Wild Horse Nine’, Chang-Dong Lee’s ‘Possible Love’, Hirokazu Koreeda’s ‘Look Back’, and Ali Asgari’s ‘A Bit of Light’. The festival also featured the documentary ‘In odium fidei’, which examines Christian martyrs during the Titina persecution.
Closing the edition is the film ‘Dio ride’, directed by Giovanni Veronesi and presented out of competition. Starring Pierfrancesco Favino, the film is set in the 17th century and follows a friar whose joyful preaching of the Gospel challenges the established religious authorities of the time.
