Giovannino Guareschi biopic to air on Rai 1

Rai 1 will broadcast the television film ‘Giovannino Guareschi – Non muoio neanche se mi ammazzano’ on Sunday, September 20. The film portrays the life, struggles, and personal values of the renowned Italian author, famous for creating the Don Camillo and Peppone series.

Giuseppe Zeno stars as Guareschi, supported by Benedetta Cimatti, Andrea Roncato, Maurizio Donadoni, and Salvatore Striano. The production aims to depict both the public intellectual and the private man, highlighting his deep connection to his wife, Ennia, and the Bassa Padana region.

The film explores Guareschi’s uncompromising character, noting his refusal to support Nazifascism—which led to his deportation to German concentration camps—as well as his critiques of both Soviet communism and American capitalist consumerism.
