Gipsy Kings and Sidney Magal to perform in Brasília
The musical group Gipsy Kings is scheduled to perform alongside Sidney Magal on December 5 at the Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center in Brasília. Tickets for the event are currently on sale.
The Gipsy Kings' musical heritage is rooted in the migration of Romani Gypsy ancestors who moved from Spain to southern France during the Spanish Civil War. The group's history traces back to 1960 with the rumba flamenca duo of José Reyes and Manitas de Plata. Following Reyes' death, his sons joined the nephews of Manitas de Plata and musician Chico Bouchikhi in 1979 to form a new ensemble.
Originally known as Los Reyes, the group later adopted the name Gipsy Kings to reflect both their cultural identity and the Reyes family name. While internal disagreements led to various iterations of the band over the decades, the legacy continues through projects such as Gipsy Kings by Diego Baliardo.
