Giresun and Güldere showcase Turkey's booming nature tourism
The Black Sea city of Giresun, promoted as the "Capital of Hazelnut," is drawing increasing numbers of visitors with its historic castle, island, waterfalls, high plateaus and renowned culinary scene. Its natural attractions such as Kuzalan Nature Park, the Mavi Lake, Göksu travertines and the sea‑side Giresun Island are highlighted as key destinations for eco‑tourism.
In south‑central Turkey, the village of Güldere in Karaman Province is gaining popularity during the summer months. The 10‑kilometre long Gödet Canyon, likened to a setting from American western films, along with nearby Hittite, Roman and Byzantine ruins, offers opportunities for picnicking, camping and cooling off in the canyon streams. Local residents report a surge of families seeking relief from the heat and a chance to experience the verdant valley.
Both locations illustrate a broader trend of domestic travel as Turkish tourists seek greener, less‑crowded retreats that combine natural beauty with cultural heritage.
