Giresun driver fined after running over stray dog

In Giresun, Turkey, a driver identified as M. Y. was apprehended after security footage showed him driving a jeep over a stray dog at the entrance of a water bottling factory in Batlama Valley. The incident, which occurred around 00:30 in Sultaniye village, was captured on camera, showing the animal being struck and subsequently limping away.

Following the social media outcry, the Giresun Governor's Office launched an investigation and successfully identified the driver. The factory management has filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office. The injured dog was located by municipal veterinary teams and is currently receiving treatment under the supervision of veterinarian Mustafa Karaçay; its condition is reported to be stable.

Upon being referred to the courthouse, the driver was fined 13,033 Turkish Lira for violating the ‘Animal Protection Law’ and was subsequently released. Legal proceedings will continue based on veterinary reports.
