Giresun floods: Missing teenager found dead after vehicle swept away

Search and rescue operations following severe flooding in the Keşap district of Giresun, Turkey, have resulted in the discovery of a missing teenager. The disaster was triggered by heavy rainfall on August 13, with some areas receiving approximately 100 kilograms of precipitation per square meter, causing rivers to overflow and damaging homes, businesses, and vehicles.

The incident occurred when a vehicle carrying three people was swept away by the Karabulduk Stream. While the driver, Ahmet Yılmaz, managed to survive on his own, 45-year-old teacher Mehmet Akkaya and his 16-year-old nephew, Muhammed Abdullah Hakkıoğlu, went missing.

Extensive search efforts involving approximately 200 personnel from agencies including AFAD, AKUT, and various local emergency services utilized drones, sonar devices, and boats to scan a 9-kilometer stretch from the stream to the sea. On the fifth day of operations, the body of the 16-year-old, Muhammed Abdullah Hakkıoğlu, was recovered from a mud accumulation near the site where the vehicle was initially swept away.
