Giresun officials seek Independence Medal via 368,000 signatures
Ali Kara, President of the Giresun Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen (GESOB), has called for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to address a petition regarding the city of Giresun. The campaign, which ran from August 30, 2025, to March 1, 2026, collected 368,417 signatures to request that Giresun be awarded the Independence Medal and the title 'Yiğit Giresun'.
Kara stated that official applications have been made to Giresun's members of parliament to ensure the matter is brought to the assembly's agenda and discussed with relevant ministries. He emphasized that the signatures represent the collective will of the local population and urged deputies to act as representatives of the people by voicing these demands in Ankara.
