Italy municipalities manage urban greenery and environmental issues
Various Italian municipalities are addressing diverse issues regarding urban greenery and environmental management. In Quartu Sant’Elena, two large pine trees were removed from via Paganini due to root instability and improper planting spacing to ensure public safety and allow the remaining eight trees to grow healthily.
In Girifalco, an agronomic report confirmed that six Washingtonia palms planted a year ago have died due to transplant shock, inadequate soil, and unfavorable microclimates, prompting recommendations for immediate removal to prevent road safety risks. Meanwhile, in Pianella, the administration is responding to reports of rats and pigeons by reinforcing pest control measures, including the use of drones, and addressing urban decay in the historic center.
In Bollate, local authorities are managing the aftermath of summer heat stress on urban plants, noting that some appear dry but may recover with increased humidity. In a more severe case, a reforestation project in the Acque Rosse pine forest in Ostia has faced a massive failure, with plant mortality rates reaching up to 100% in some lots. This has led to a formal complaint to the Court of Auditors regarding the potential waste of public and PNRR funds.
