Girlguiding rolls out first uniform redesign in 30 years to boost inclusion
Girlguiding in the United Kingdom has launched its first major uniform redesign in more than three decades. The new range replaces the traditional full uniform with a casual top‑only dress code, allowing Guides, Brownies and Rainbows to pair the branded top with their own clothing.
The redesign, created with input from thousands of girls and produced by Hemmingway Design, features hidden pockets, thumb holes, badge sashes that double as cross‑body bags, and uses recyclable, eco‑friendly materials. Chief Executive Felicity Oswald said the collection is intended to give girls “the freedom to express themselves, whilst feeling part of our amazing organisation,” emphasizing practicality, comfort and sustainability. A survey of 2,000 UK girls found 93 % felt more comfortable when they could style the uniform themselves. Ambassador Angellica Bell praised the range for promoting self‑expression and confidence, noting that the change is expected to raise confidence levels among members.
