Girne man imprisoned after threatening to kill wife and children

A man identified as B. G. appeared in court in Girne after allegedly threatening to kill his wife and children during a dispute over their 26-year marriage. The suspect reportedly told his wife, “There is a gun in the car, I will shoot you in the head, I will kill you and the children.”

Police officer Birkan Gertik testified that the suspect, who holds a work permit valid until January 2027, made these threats following his wife's request for a divorce. Investigations revealed that the children had also filed complaints, alleging they were frequently threatened with death by the suspect.

During the hearing, B. G. did not deny the accusations but claimed the words were spoken in a moment of anger, stating, “I do not want a divorce.” Judge Hazal Hacımulla prohibited the suspect from leaving the country and ordered his release contingent upon a 30,000 TL cash deposit and a 500,000 TL guarantee signed by a local citizen. Because the suspect failed to meet these financial conditions, he was sent to prison in custody.
