Giro d’Abruzzo cycling race begins in Italy

The 2026 Giro d’Abruzzo cycling race has commenced in Italy, spanning four stages across the Abruzzo region. The competition began with a 155 km stage from Cupello, traversing the Majella slopes and concluding with a challenging climb at Casalincontrada.

Following the opening stage, the second day saw Lennart Jasch of the Tudor Pro Cycling Team take a solo victory, finishing nine seconds ahead of the main field. Alessandro Fancellu maintains a narrow lead in the general classification, followed closely by Mathys Rondel. Other notable riders, including Giacomo Ballabio and Colin Stüssi, remain within striking distance of the overall lead.

Regional officials, including Abruzzo President Marco Marsilio and Tourism Undersecretary Daniele D’Amario, have highlighted the event as a strategic tool for promoting the region's landscapes and tourism through international television coverage.
