Giro d’Italia per la Pace brings Assisi Peace Lamp to Italian cities
The “Giro d’Italia per la Pace” (Tour of Italy for Peace) is a national initiative involving over 180 appointments across Italy to promote peace, fraternity, and the defense of democracy. A central symbol of this journey is the Lamp of Peace from Assisi.
Grosseto has officially joined the network of “Cities for Peace” and will host a stage of the tour. The local administration aims to engage schools, associations, and younger generations to foster a culture of respect and civil coexistence. Mayor Antonfrancesco Vivarelli Colonna stated that the initiative serves to reinforce the role of institutions in promoting dialogue and solidarity.
In the province of Como, the tour will feature ten stages between September 20 and October 2. The local leg begins in Villa Guardia and seeks to counter the normalization of war and the arms race by promoting legality and critical thinking. The initiative coincides with the eighth centenary of Saint Francis of Assisi and the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic.
