Giro d'Italia Women stage shortened by ice, Urška Žigart finishes just outside top ten

The women’s Giro d'Italia stage that tackled the legendary Colle delle Finestre climb was halted early because an unstable sheet of ice threatened the road. Race officials moved the finish line to about one kilometre below the summit, shortening the stage to roughly 76.5 km instead of the planned 106 km.

Dutch rider Demi Vollering claimed the stage victory, with fellow Dutch rider Anna van der Breggen taking fourth place and preserving a 50‑second lead over her rivals in the general classification. Slovenia’s national champion Urška Žigart completed the stage in 11th place, two minutes and a half behind Vollering, and moved up to ninth overall in the race standings, now five minutes and 51 seconds behind the leader.

The abrupt change was prompted by safety concerns over possible ice fall, and organizers cited the risk of an ice sheet collapsing onto the road as the reason for the early finish.
