Girona honors 15 individuals with Medals of Sport

The 45th edition of the Medals of Sport of the Girona Regions (Medalles de l’Esport de les Comarques Gironines) was held at the Pati de les Magnòlies in Girona. The ceremony, organized by the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Diputació de Girona, honored 15 individuals for their long-term commitment to promoting sports and its values within the region.

The awards specifically recognize individuals over the age of 60 who have made significant contributions to the local sporting landscape. This year's edition saw a record number of candidacies, with 31 applicants representing 17 different sporting disciplines. Notably, officials highlighted a record number of female athletes receiving distinctions, reflecting broader social transformations in the sporting community.

Government and regional authorities, including Xavier Guitart and Miquel Noguer, attended the event to celebrate the collective impact of these individuals on the territory's social and athletic fabric.
